You're at the page to say HOW, WHY, WHEN & WHERE any disappointing cancellation must be announced, if there's
Extreme Winter Weather.

Yes or No ?   -   will a  Brummie Contra  take place in
- EXTREME -  WINTRY WEATHER ?
In really bad weather or worrying coronavirus levels, it's IMPRUDENT to try to meet & dance.
(Scroll down for "Avoiding What".)

- Brummie Contra fliers warn:  FIRST CHECK the WEBSITE !
Check for a NEW FIRST item ADDED on HOME page of the WEBSITE !
Any cancellation will USUALLY show prominently by 8pm on EVE BEFORE the Contra !
Uncertain onset of heavy snow, or serious fog:
Check website by 10am on the same day for all 2.30pm afternoon dances -
and by 1pm on the same day for all EVENING dances.

A timely YES or NO. This is preferable to uncertainty on the day,
since some regulars travel a considerable distance.
Any announcing decision will be CLEAR - ( NOT on this page, but ) -

at the TOP OF the HOME or HOME/Dates PAGE !
where it is seen as soon as you reach the website.
_
Maybe nothing new there before 8pm on eve prior to Contra.
Band & caller must first be contacted after that evening's forecast is checked.
Please
look & check around 8pm, if weather is in any doubt.
Know a dancer with no computer or smartphone? Helpfully arrange NOW. Say you will ring to tell if any cancellation.
Should homepage announce "maybe" at 8pm, very late night forecast will be checked.
Such a "maybe" homepage announcement may change overnight.
With still the prospect of an adequate dance attendance, band & caller will be contacted again BEFORE the morning.

Expect A CANCELLATION on Home/Dates page
at VERY latest
by 10am
on the morning of an afternoon dance.

PLEASE CHECK then, if in any doubt.
Not cancelled by 10am - the dance WILL take place.
The Brummie Contras will hopefully thus NOT be cancelled unnecessarily.
_
AVOIDING What  ?
The organising headache is HOW to best  AVOID SCENARIO:
1)
Band & caller travel many miles through falling snow or fog - Hall is almost empty of dancers! Most remain snug at home !
With few there, that's inadequate moneys to pay for the hall, or band, or caller !
Too few for a real dance. All involved are deeply disappointed.
_
OR - equally to  AVOID SCENARIO :
2) Band & caller cancelled; but done ineptly late.
Some dancers get told, others just find out.
Many decide not to come anyhow.
BUT a few are loyal and struggle to turn-up
-
looking forward to lively dance and warm sociability.
They find the Hall locked and empty
!
_
Repercussions :  will inevitably follow either above scenario:
-   Less keen dancers in future.
-  Bands or callers are not prepared to risk coming again.
-  Less future dances.
_
Few organisers can afford to pay substantially from their own reserves or credit, to keep giving ongoing support for dances  !
